What is consumption monitoring?
When installing solar and or batteries in your home, you will generally get a standard monitoring function (some manufacturers may charge extra for this) included. This monitoring will allow you to see how much your solar system is generating or what is being stored in your batteries.
This data provided is limited in telling you the information you can actually do something with. You will see how much energy has been generated by day/month/year, but it won't show you how much has been used in your home or been exported back to the grid. This is what consumption monitoring allows us to do.
You will need to purchase a smart energy meter while installing the system or adding one to an existing solar installation. These smart energy meters will generally cost a few hundred dollars, and most inverter manufacturers have specific compatible brands/models you need to use.
This smart energy meter sits in your electrical switchboard and will measure the energy you are producing or importing. You might think you have a smart meter already, but this is likely the revenue utility meter installed by your energy provider for their billing purposes.
What happens now will depend on the inverter manufacturer you choose. With FIMER, you will have access to FIMER's monitoring application, FIMER Energy Viewer. This monitoring tool is free for the life of your system.
Having a smart energy meter installed with a FIMER inverter will allow you to see 24 hours of your energy usage and energy production. By seeing this information, you will see when and how you are consuming energy in your home. It will enable you to change your families behaviours to fully maximise your self-sufficiency (use as much energy from your solar system instead of importing energy from the grid).
FIMER's Consumption Monitoring Solution
UNO-DM-PLUS-Q Series
Our UNO range, which is a single-phase inverter with power ratings from 2.0kW to 6.0kW. To enable consumption monitoring with a UNO inverter, the installer will need to install a COM-KIT into the inverter and a B21-312-100 smart energy meter.
The UNO is powered by your solar system, so it will only be powered during the day. So during the day, you will see your PV generation and consumption data.
When the sun goes down, the inverter and monitoring will go to sleep. But, when the system turns back on the next day, it will pull the data from the smart energy meter and upload it to the cloud. This will allow you to go back and see the previous night's consumption data. FIMER's solution allows you to look back upon and see 24/7 monitoring data for a day, week, month or year/s.
REACT 2 Hybrid Inverter & Battery Solution
FIMER's home battery solution, the REACT 2, includes a hybrid inverter and energy storage modules. To have real-time consumption monitoring 24/7, your installer will need to install a B21-312-100 smart energy meter. The REACT 2 system does not turn itself off, enabling real-time monitoring all day and all night.
Monitor and manage your energy
FIMER's Energy Viewer enables you to keep track of your system production data and consumption* anytime, anywhere.
An easy to use mobile application allows solar owners to remotely monitor their system's energy flows and performance, with or without an energy storage system installed.
Energy Viewer users can view all energy coming into and out of a building, including residential applications or commercial offices, while keeping track of energy self-consumption as well as energy self-sufficiency.
Energy Viewer is free of charge with any FIMER solar system. Demo the Energy Viewer app now!
